ODOT: Volunteers needed for 2017 DUI Engagement Marketing
Posted by hannah.cherry

2017 DUI Engagement Marketing Volunteers
The Oregonian Crossing campaign aims to increase awareness of Oregon traffic laws, promote safe and responsible travel behavior, and ultimately reduce the number of people hit or killed by vehicles in our state. Engagement Marketing is promoting a safe way home in an聽unconventional way at public events where alcohol is served.聽Engagement marketing involves the application of multiple techniques and聽practices to establish direct contact.聽One of the goals of this interaction is to cause an emotional reaction.聽Our message is to develop the habit of planning their night out in a different way聽than they are used to.
What鈥檚 your part in it?
This is an opportunity to get volunteer hours,聽and to practice public outreach skills that can help your resume. Volunteers staff our booth to engage the public at designated outreach events. Volunteers will:
- engage people passing by booth at event聽(greet them;聽ask them questions about not driving impaired;聽share facts about impairment, DUI, and traffic safety)
- offer branded water bottle with safety message
- offer information on Ride share offers or discounts
- offer information on the SaferRide app
- offer chance to try informal Breathalyzers聽(for educational purposes only)
What support will you聽have doing this?
Volunteer training will be provided by Oregon Impact prior to聽starting a shift at the event. You鈥檒l get information, a chance to see and聽practice engaging someone, and materials to work with.聽There will be shift overlap scheduled so you can learn from those who have聽been actively engaging on the prior shift.

About the Organization
The Oregon Department of Transportation began life in 1913 when the Oregon Legislature created the Oregon Highway Commission to “get Oregon out of the mud.” Today, the Oregon Department of Transportation works to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports economic opportunity and livable communities for Oregonians.聽We develop programs related to Oregon鈥檚 system of highways, roads, and bridges; railways; public transportation services; transportation safety programs; driver and vehicle licensing; and motor carrier regulation.
