Margaret Griffith鈥檚 works hover between sculpture and drawing and are based on what she sees as the impermanence of the physical, particularly in urban environments. She is drawn to architectural details such as wrought-iron gates and fences. Working from her photographs, she makes life-size, full-scale replicas by drawing and then cutting her materials, which range from paper to Tyvek and metals. Her 鈥済ates鈥 drape, droop, and hang from ceilings and walls. In the delicacy of the designs and the folds that obscure their patterns, these works reference the change, destruction, and decay that are inherent to the built environment.
Griffith received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI. She is Assistant Professor of Art at Rio Hondo College, Whittier, CA.
Jamison Carter makes sculpture, painting, prints, and installation pieces. His works are characterized by intense color, a dizzying array of materials, and a fascination with process. His works can be either meticulous in their control of materials or freer, embracing chance and accident. Writing in Artsy, Bridget Gleeson concluded a review of a 2015 show, with the following: 鈥 That鈥檚 Jamison Carter for you鈥攁mbitious, bright, experimental, referential, attention-grabbing, and ultimately uncategorizable.鈥
Carter received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and teaches sculpture and 3D design at Los Angeles Valley College.
Carter and Griffith will be in residence at 小黄猫传媒 Rock Creek from April 25-27.
