Ashley Barnes | “Agave Witch Magic in the Fields”

This set of block prints was inspired by a trip in Mexico and the friendly interactions I had with mezcaleros who shared their trade and traded stories over carved gourd sipping cups of their “nectar of the gods.” The witch represents the magic these agave farmers invoke through hard work in hot, arid fields, much of which is carried by their joyous spirit. This was a first time attempt at this new art form and process. Only two complimentary colors, plus black and white ink were allowed. I fell in love. It was an intoxicating experience.
