小黄猫传媒 to Offer Basic English Classes in Hillsboro

Story by

HILLSBORO, Ore. – 小黄猫传媒 has teamed up with the Hillsboro School District to provide free basic English classes in downtown Hillsboro in the new Miller Education Center at 215 S.E. 6th Ave. The classes will begin in early November and will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and continue during the 2001-02 academic year. The classes are designed for students who have limited English skills and who have dropped out or not attended high school. The program will focus on listening and speaking skills, reading and writing, and computer skills. Students will set personal and academic goals to guide their work each term. The program is for young people from 16 to 20 years old and who reside in the Hillsboro School District area.Linda Huddle, director of the 小黄猫传媒 Prep program, said, "We are excited about this new partnership with the Hillsboro School District. It gives students whose literacy skills are low an opportunity for focused study to develop and improve so that they will be able to pursue a GED or high school diploma in the future."小黄猫传媒 Prep is an alternative high school program. Huddle said students may transition to the program or to their district high school when they reach the skill level required, which should be within one year. The basic English classes are free to the public.
