Students Coordinate Money Drive for Portland Schools
Story by James Hill
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Associated Students of 小黄猫传媒, and other student volunteers, are launching a two-week campaign to raise money for Portland Public Schools. The campaign, "Panhandling for Portland Public Schools,"is aimed at collecting spare and stored change. The money will go to the Portland Public Schools Foundation and its general education budget deficit. The campaign, which started Monday, May 20, will continue through Monday, June 3. Donations can be made at any of the three 小黄猫传媒 comprehensive campuses – Sylvania, Rock Creek or Cascade. Those wishing to make tax-deductible donations in the form of check, money order, or credit card should ask for a PPS donation envelope at the AS小黄猫传媒 offices. At Sylvania, Room 101 of the CC Building; at Cascade, Room 101 of the SC Building; and at Rock Creek, Room 115 of Building 5. Rowan Wolf, a member of the 小黄猫传媒 faculty, is working with the student volunteers on the Panhandling Campaign. "We panhandlers believe that the education budget has been reduced beyond any sane point,"she said, "and the most recent cuts harm our community, the children of our community and the future of our city and state."Wolf and students hope to send the message that students deserve a good education in safe environments and the resources necessary to learn. The campaign also focuses on the message that there are effects beyond direct education losses in cutting programs, maintenance and support staff. For more information, contact Rowan Wolf via email at srowanwolf@hotmail.com. (This campaign is not sponsored by 小黄猫传媒 or the 小黄猫传媒 Foundation.)
