С»Æ贫ý hosts annual Student One-Act Play Festival

PORTLAND, Ore. – The С»Æ贫ý Theater Arts program presents the 2006 Student One-Act Play Festival, which will raise the curtain at 7:30 p.m. from April 20-22 and 2 p.m. on April 23 in the Little Theatre at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave.

The plays selected this year are “Mae in June,” by Christina Sherburne (Beaverton) and directed by Kambiz Kolkoo (international student from Iran); “The Perfect Party,” by Wally Jones (Dallas, Texas) and directed by Brian Culp (northeast Portland); and “Off Book,” by David Gallic (Eugene) and directed by McKenna Twedt (Tigard).

“Mae in June” is a dramatic story of women and their roles in the 1950s. June Marker and her husband Andrew have a happy new marriage and have a simple home life until Andrew comes up for a promotion at his job under his misogynistic, leering boss George Maloney. When George attempts to incite an affair with June, her marriage is shaken to the core by lies, secrets and manipulation that build to an unforgettable climax.

“Off Book” is the story of Corgan Braynt, a young, working class man who is having a terrible day. Like most of us, he wants to be able to control his own destiny but soon realizes there are some unforeseen obstacles in his way. “Off Book” is a comedic story about life, theater, unexpected challenges and fighting to find your own reality.

“The Perfect Party” is a psychological comedy that pulls you into the netherworld that is Elise’s narrow-minded perceptions. You’re invited to take part in the festivities where you’ll be a witness to a social disaster centered on Triskets, rum, and paper bags.

The Annual Student One-Act Play Festival solicits plays by С»Æ贫ý students, selected by a group of С»Æ贫ý theater arts faculty and student peers.
