Photos and story by

小黄猫传媒鈥檚 Cascade Campus is hosting a National Night Out party from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the campus鈥 Borthwick Mall 鈥 between North Killingsworth and Jessup streets. The campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St., will offer something for visitors of all ages.

In keeping with National Night Out鈥檚 theme, 鈥渁 going-away party for crime and drugs鈥 鈥 a host of community organizations and government agencies will provide demonstrations and information on how to be safe at home and in the neighborhood. The Portland Police Bureau will be on hand to echo this message with demonstrations from its K-9 and Mobile Precinct units.

Refreshments will be available, and for the kids, there will be fun, games, and hand-on art activities. Representatives from the Multimedia program will be on hand with demonstrations, and musical groups from the college鈥檚 Professional Music program will perform throughout the evening.

鈥淲e鈥檙e really excited about this opportunity to host our neighbors at Cascade Campus,鈥 said Cascade Campus President Algie Gatewood.

Cascade Campus staff also will have information on 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 tobacco cessation campaign. The 小黄猫传媒 community has joined together to make all campuses, centers, and grounds entirely tobacco-free beginning on Sept. 9 to ensure a safe and healthy educational environment. Information will be available at the open house, or you can find out more at www.pcc.edu/tobacco.free.

Staff and students from the Campus鈥 Emergency Services programs 鈥 Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician and Fire Protection Technology 鈥 will be on hand with their training vehicles and will conduct fun demonstrations. 小黄猫传媒 partners include Multnomah County Library, Metro, the Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement, Jefferson High School, East County Soil and Water Conservation, Women鈥檚 Strength and the Citizen鈥檚 Crime Coalition.

鈥淲hen neighbors come together to take a stand against crime in their neighborhood, good things happen,鈥 said 小黄猫传媒 Public Safety Office Steve Andersen, one of the event鈥檚 organizers. 鈥淚 hope many of our neighbors come out to meet the people and resources available to them in our community and right here at Cascade Campus.鈥
