Mike Rathbun—Artist Talk

2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. – mahB 109

Rathbun states, “How can I see the world again? In amongst the day to day stresses, the need for money, fear has made the world empty and invisible. How do I recover my place in the world? My work has been energy that I have gained from sources, (i.e. books & experience) and poured out in physical form (i.e. space & material).”

Moe Bowstern—’Zinester and Poet

11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. – mahB 222

Bowstern has been known to fish for shad on New York’s Hudson River, shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico, and salmon in Kodiak, Alaska for the past twenty years. When she’s not fishing, Bowstern is hard at work on her ’zine, Xtra Tuf.

Sandeep Koranne—Sitar Performance

12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. – Cafeteria

India comes to С��è��ý with the sounds of sitarist Sandeep Koranne. Sandeep has extensive knowledge of Raga music, vocal as well as instrumental. He will be accompanied on the tabla by Sai Kiran.

Carson Ellis—Art Beat 2010 Featured Artist

2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. – mahB 223

This year’s featured Art Beat artist Carson Ellis is known for her distinctive album and web site illustrations for Portland band The Decemberists as well as her many book illustrations, including The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart, and The Composer is Dead, by Lemony Snicket. Carson Ellis is one of the most distinctive artist/illustrators working today.

Carl Adamshick—Poetry Reading and Discussion

3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. – sC 205

Adamshick will take the audience through exercises that develop a sense of place and origin. He will show how landscape and place can provide material for some of the most powerful poems a person can write. He will also read from his recent work.

Jass Two Plus One—Music Performance

Jass Two Plus One brings you the romance and adventure of the Jazz music of the ’20s & ’30s, a vibrant, naughty new music in its day, first called “Jass” and later “Jazz”.

John Morrison—Poetry Discussion

Morrison reads both from his poetry and poetry that has influenced him. This event may include a craft discussion and/or a writing exercise.

Michael Knutson—Artist Talk

2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. – 222

Painter Michael Knutson discusses his creative process as well as shows images of his works, many of which involve complex play with geometrical figures.

Victoria Christen—Artist Talk

Victoria Christen is a Portland ceramist and educator who makes whimsical pots with painterly decoration. Come join us for this inspiring workshop.

Steve Coker—Film Presentation and Discussion

Filmmaker Steve Coker presents his Portland-made feature film, Crackin’ the Code, and will answer questions and talk about the film afterward.

Matthew Dickman—Poetry Reading

Winner of the 2009 Oregon Book Award for his work The All-American Poem, Dickman reads from his poetry and discusses his creative process.

Audrey Walker—Theater Discussion

Audrey Walker discusses the process of script analysis and how it informs her work as an actor.

Tia Factor—Artist Talk

Painter Tia Factor will be discussing and showing images from her recent solo show Places We Call Home, which was on view in the Bay Area in March and April 2010.

JD Perkin—Artist Talk

Ceramist J.D. Perkin will be presenting his large scale, figurative works.

Oregon Universal Zulu Nation— Hip Hop/Dance/Graffiti

All elements Hip Hop jam! DJs, Graffiti artists, MCs, Bboys and Bgirls make up the four main elements of Hip Hop culture. Come share the experience with the Oregon Universal Zulu Nation as they bring it all together with the fifth element: Knowledge.

Michele Theberge—Artist Talk

Theberge discusses her projects, which manifest themselves in a variety of humble everyday materials, such as fabric, plastic, pins and foil, in combination with her drawings and paintings.

Lisa Brinkman—Sculpture Discussion

Lisa Brinkman shares her art and art making processes, including mixed media painting, Japanese and Mexican bark papermaking, woodcuts and felt making. She states, “As an artist I utilize dreams and the investigation of symbols for inspiration.”
