According to Bruce Conkle鈥檚 website, the artist 鈥渓oves snowmen, coconuts, fairy tales, crystals, burls and meteorites.鈥 Conkle鈥檚 multi-tiered installations utilize art and humor to address contemporary attitudes toward nature and environmental concerns.

Ryan Pierce鈥檚 compositionally complex narrative paintings depict a future where only the vestiges of human activity remain. Pierce will be discussing his work and offering a demonstration on his vibrantly hued acrylic painting process.

An Alaska Native Yup鈥檌k artist specializing in sculpture, Yup鈥檌k spirit masks and musical instruments, Charette discusses his creations and underlying philosophy. Through a hands-on exploratory approach, his art expresses elements of traditional Yup鈥檌k spirituality, cosmology and power.
Tango Pacifico鈥擜rt Music Performance

Portland-based quintet Tango Pacifico presents a rare and unique program of the music of Argentinean tango master Astor Piazzolla. The music of Astor Piazzolla is rarely performed outside of Argentina with the intended instrumentation or with such a high level of stylistic expertise.
Carson Ellis鈥擜rt Beat 2010 Featured Artist

This year鈥檚 featured Art Beat artist Carson Ellis is known for her distinctive album and web site illustrations for Portland band The Decemberists as well as her many book illustrations, including The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart, and The Composer is Dead, by Lemony Snicket. Carson Ellis is one of the most distinctive artist/illustrators working today.

Sundowners鈥揚erformance and Theatre Discussion

Sundowners is a 10 minute play written, directed, acted and designed entirely by students. Sundowners follows a care worker in an Alzheimer鈥檚 facility and two people in his care. The performance will be followed by a talk-back/dialogue about the play鈥檚 issues and about the remarkable process of creating an entirely student-driven production.
Sneakin鈥 Out鈥擬usic Performance

Stellaluna, the enchanting story of a baby fruit bat who falls into a bird鈥檚 nest, is adapted from the beloved book by Janell Cannon. Poor Stellaluna tries to adapt to her new home but finds herself the odd one out, hanging by her feet and disgusted by those bugs Mother Bird brings home to dinner. What a relief when she finally discovers she is a bat!
Keith Achepohl鈥擯rintmaking Discussion and Demonstration

Keith Achepohl will share his works and processes as well as demonstrate his techniques. Achepohl is known primarily for his watercolors and prints. Much of his work is informed by extensive travels in the Mediterranean region.

Laura Ross-Paul鈥擯ainting Discussion and Demonstration

Celebrated Northwest painter Laura Ross-Paul discusses her lushly atmospheric paintings and offers a technical demonstration on her process following the talk. Working with a live model, Ross-Paul will show her method of building up oil pigments and wax to create poignant, emotionally-charged figurative works.
Rite of Spring鈥擬usic Performance

The bandoneon, the principal instrument of tango music, is known to many as the 鈥渄evil鈥檚 box鈥 for its difficulty. Jost will discuss the curious origins of this instrument,
