More than 1,000 attendees visited 鈥淢ahrajan鈥 鈥 Arab festival 鈥 the first-ever hosted by the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon on Sept. 26, at the Fulton Community Center in Southwest Portland. Mujahid El-Naser, a 小黄猫传媒 Sylvania student, leads a Middle Eastern folk dance at this year's "Mahrajan."

鈥淲e serve so many Arab students and students from Middle East 鈥 it made perfect sense for Sylvania to be a sponsor of this event,鈥 said Linda Gerber, Sylvania Campus president. 鈥淲e were delighted to be involved.鈥

In addition to traditional Arab cuisine 鈥 from falafel to baklava 鈥 the festival offered an array of music, dance, arts and crafts, henna painting, cooking demonstrations and workshops, and children鈥檚 activities. 鈥淲e wanted to showcase the spirit of Oregon鈥檚 Arab-Americans, reflecting their diversity and contributions to the community鈥檚 cultural landscape,鈥 said Hala Gores, president of AACCO. 鈥淗aving 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 presence as part of the celebration underscored the 鈥榗ommunity鈥 aspect of this, and we are grateful for its participation.鈥
