Award-winning author Reza Aslan to discuss Middle East events

, internationally acclaimed writer, author and scholar of religions, will visit the Sylvania Campus and share his thoughts on politics, faith, culture, and recent events in the Middle East.聽Aslan will speak from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 3 in the Performing Arts Center Lobby, Sylvania Campus. This lecture is free and open to students, staff, faculty and the public.

The Daily Beast's Reza Aslan, award-winning and best-selling author, will speak about the Middle East on Thursday, March 3 at the Sylvania Campus.
The implosion in Tunisia鈥檚 government this year has created a ripple effect throughout the Middle East, catapulting the region to global media headlines.聽Aslan, author of the international best-seller 鈥淣o god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam,鈥 and a regular contributor to ,鈥 will address current events in the Middle East and more.
He will touch on a variety of intersecting aspects of life in the Middle East, including:
- The meaning of 鈥淚slam鈥檚 reformation.鈥
- Commonalities and differences among monotheistic religions.
- Terrorism and fundamentalism: Root causes.
- Demographics and economics: Their imprint on the region鈥檚 future.
- American media coverage of Islam, Muslims and Arabs.
- Democracy, Dictatorships, Autocracies: Past, present and future.
The event results from 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 Internationalization Initiative, which offers opportunities and services to advance intercultural competence and global understanding. The talk is co-sponsored by the ,听Sylvania Multicultural Center and Sylvania’s student government.
