Governor signs education bills at Rock Creek

Gov. John Kitzhaber set higher education reform as one of his top priorities for his first year back in office. On Wednesday, he comes to 小黄猫传媒 to sign a trio of education bills into law.

The bill-signing event is set for 10:15 a.m. in the grassy area behind Building 9, Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Road.

In the event of rain, the event will be moved into the Rock Creek aviation hangar.

鈥淎s a candidate, John Kitzhaber launched the education platform at 小黄猫传媒 Cascade, so this event feels like coming full circle,鈥 said Preston Pulliams, district president for 小黄猫传媒.

The bills Kitzhaber will sign into law are:

  • Senate Bill 242, which establishes a higher education commission designed to improve planning for Oregon’s 17 independent community colleges, the seven schools in the Oregon University System, and Oregon Health & Science University.
  • S.B. 253, which is designed to increase the percentage of Oregonians obtaining their high school diplomas, associate鈥檚 degrees and bachelor鈥檚 degrees.
  • S.B. 254, which is designed to increase the number of students who obtain college credits while still enrolled in high school.
