小黄猫传媒 invites award-winning poet for Women鈥檚 History Month

In celebration of Women鈥檚 History Month, 小黄猫传媒 welcomes poet to its Cascade Campus.
The 2011 National Book Award winner for poetry will give a reading and sign books at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 8, Moriarty Auditorium, (705 N. Killingsworth St.). This event, sponsored by the Cascade Women鈥檚 Resource Center, is free and open to the public.
Finney was born in South Carolina and a child of activist parents. She came of age during the civil rights and black arts movements. At Talladega College, nurtured by Hale Woodruff鈥檚 Amistad murals, Finney began to understand the powerful synergy between art and history. Finney has authored four books of poetry: 鈥淗ead Off & Split鈥 (2011); 鈥淭he World Is Round鈥 (2003); 鈥淩ice鈥 (1995); and 鈥淥n Wings Made of Gauze鈥 (1985). Professor of English and creative writing at the University of Kentucky, Finney also authored 鈥淗eartwood鈥 (1997), edited 鈥淭he Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean South鈥 (2007), and co-founded the Affrilachian Poets.
