Latino culture focus of 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 Semana de la Raza

小黄猫传媒鈥檚 Rock Creek Campus is hosting the Eighth Annual Semana de la Raza (鈥淲eek of the people鈥) from April 21-25 at the Event Center, Building 9, 17705 N.W. Springville Road.
This event, which has a theme this year of 鈥淓l color de la vida鈥 or 鈥渢he color of life,鈥 is the college鈥檚 annual celebration of Latino culture with a weeklong schedule of workshops, speakers and entertainment. It is free and open to the public.
Semana de la Raza begins with its kick-off day from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, April 21, featuring live music from the Tom Bergeron Brasil Band (11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Los Dos de Atar茅s (2-3 p.m.), as well as food from La Taqueria Hermanos Ochoa鈥檚. From 3-4 p.m., organizers will show clips from Mexican television series 鈥淓l Chavo Del Ocho鈥 and be followed by a brief discussion of the shows鈥 cultural impact.
Other highlights include journalist Todd Miller鈥檚 talk from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 23 about his new book, 鈥淏order Patrol Nation,鈥 which documents how border patrol and immigration enforcement has dramatically expanded inward in the country over the last several years. On Thursday, April 24, the week closes with the Cesar Chavez Distinguished Service Awards & Reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ceremony will feature the Cesar Chavez Distinguished Service Awards, Semana de la Raza poster competition, an essay contest and musical guest Edna Vazquez.
