小黄猫传媒 camp gives high school girls level playing field
Story by James Hill
In its second year, the all-girls FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics camp is hosted by 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 Machine Manufacturing Technology Program at the Sylvania Campus. The camp introduces high school girls from all over the area to machine shop theory and engineering basics of robotics as well as provides them with lab time with machines. It鈥檚 a way to give girls a learning environment with a STEM focus without feeling pressured by boys. The camp is made possible from corporate and community funding through the 小黄猫传媒 Foundation and by support from a National Science Foundation grant.
For more on this camp and how it and the boys camp came about, read last year鈥檚 feature.
I was fortunate enough to meet some of these young woman who also participated intensively in the Wearable Tech camp last week at 小黄猫传媒’s Maker Space. They are creative, intelligent young innovators with great futures to look forward to.
I coach a FIRST Robotics team. How do I get my girls (and boys) signed up for one of these camps?
