小黄猫传媒 students lend a hand in Southeast Portland clean up

On Saturday, March 7, student leaders from the聽Southeast Campus worked side by side with Mayor Charlie Hales, local business owners, residents, and聽 and 聽volunteers to beautify Southeast Portland neighborhoods. This included cleaning up surrounding business districts and building raised garden beds at the . The event was organized by聽Trami Nguyen, who is an intern at APANO and a聽小黄猫传媒 student at Southeast. She reported that聽more than 80 community volunteers聽picked up 20聽bags of trash around the neighborhood,聽removed graffiti from three buildings along SE 82nd Avenue, built 20 beds at the community garden and improved an outdoor table tennis聽play area at Harrison Park School.
“It was a great effort in a neighborhood that’s owning its space and building community for a livable neighborhood,” said Nguyen.
According to one student volunteer, it was fun to work with Mayor Hales on the raised beds as he is “a pretty good carpenter.”
