Tuong Hoang小黄猫传媒 students Tuong Hoang and Quynh Do can add 鈥渘ational scholars鈥 to their academic r茅sum茅s. Hoang was named one of 50 community college students from the United States and American Samoa who are 2015 New Century Scholars while Do was one of 50 selected from across the country as this year鈥檚 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholars.

2) In a League of Her Own

Frances FaganFagan, who began at 小黄猫传媒 taking Transitions Program classes, had been mulling Mount Holyoke College, Cornell and Yale as possible transfer destinations. However, it was Yale鈥檚 Ethnicity, Race, and Migration Program that won her over to further her interest in refugee camp designs and how they relate to common library infrastructures.

Bigfoot?Is Bigfoot roaming the forest at the Sylvania Campus?聽 鈥淭his is more significant than when we spotted the Loch Ness Monster in the Rock Creek koi pond,鈥 said 小黄猫传媒 Monster Spotters Student Club President Harley Anderson. 鈥淭his time, it鈥檚 definitely not a swimming labradoodle. This is a real monster. It鈥檚 Bigfoot!鈥

 Inclusion in Action小黄猫传媒 has the highest population of transgender and gender nonconforming students of any community college in Oregon and one of the highest of any higher education institution in the state.

5) Soccer Returns to 小黄猫传媒

Soccer Returns to 小黄猫传媒On a hot August day under the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District鈥檚 soccer field pavilion, Walter Arevalo is the center of attention. Arevalo welcomes players to the artificial turf field next to 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 Rock Creek Campus, handing each their blue-and-white jerseys, white shorts and multi-band long socks with impressive skill and swiftness.

6) Taking the Lead

Kole MyrickAt 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 53rd Commencement Ceremony, Myrick will address more than 1,000 fellow graduates and thousands more in friends, family and community members. He鈥檒l discuss his story of being a trans man going from homelessness to honor student and student leader, and how he learned to ask for help.

8) Hasan Alhamwi happy to serve

Hasan AlhamwiFollowing the civil war that broke out in Syria, Hasan Alhamwi found himself in no man鈥檚 land. He was studying civil engineering in his northern Syrian hometown of Aleppo in 2012 when he abruptly left the country as rebel fighting and terrorist attacks encroached on his government-controlled city.

9) Artist’s walks in the park

Soyoung ParkPark is a transplant to Portland from Seoul, South Korea. While her husband worked at Oregon Health & Science University as a visiting dentistry professor, Park sought to acclimate to her new home. Part of this process included enrolling at 小黄猫传媒 in January 2014 for English language training so she could better communicate with the locals.

10) Scholars of Space

Space!Students Andrew Jozwiak of Beaverton and Abram Morphew of Southwest Portland are taking part in a Mars rover program this month at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. In addition, Tanner Hageman of Southeast Portland is headed to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas the last week of October to take part in a red planet-related robotics project.
