legcommThe Joint Committee on Transportation Preservation and Modernization is聽meeting around the state this summer to discuss needs and priorities for a transportation package in the 2017 legislative session.聽One of the stops was at 小黄猫传媒’s Southeast Campus on Monday, June 13. Hundreds packed the Great Hall in Mt. Tabor Building to discuss population growth, economic issues and budget needs relating to Portland’s transportation infrastructure.

鈥淲e want to hear from Oregonians about their transportation priorities,鈥 said Sen. Lee Beyer (D-Springfield).聽鈥淭his tour will give us the chance to discuss shipping routes with business owners,聽traffic flow with community leaders; and congestion with commuters. It will provide the聽information we need to create the right statewide transportation for all of Oregon.鈥

House Speaker Tina Kotek and Senate President Peter Courtney created the special committee, which they said is a top聽priority for the presiding officers and legislators around the state. That process, Kotek and聽Courtney said, will begin by thoroughly examining transportation needs across the state.

Rep. Caddy McKeown (D-Coos Bay) and Sen. Beyer co-chair the聽joint committee that includes Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-Ontario),聽Sen. Brian Boquist (R-Dallas),聽Rep. John Lively (D-Springfield), Rep. Susan McLain (D-Forest Grove), Rep. Andy Olson (R-Albany), Rep. Barbara Smith Warner (D-Portland), Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner),聽Sen. Chris Edwards (D-Eugene), Sen. Fred Girod (R-Stayton), Sen. Betsy Johnson (D-Scappoose), Sen. Rod Monroe (D-Portland) and Sen. Jackie Winters (R-Salem).
