No. 10: Taking Classes on the Road
Coming in at No. 10 is our article concerning С»Æ贫ý’s Education Abroad Program. It is expanding in 2025 with its most diverse lineup yet, offering 10 study abroad opportunities, including Tokyo and Buenos Aires. Accessible to all students, the program provides scholarships, financial guidance and transformative experiences, blending classroom learning with cultural immersion. Read more.
No. 9: Student Vets Loving ‘Dog Days’ at С»Æ贫ý
The Sylvania Veterans Resource Center (VRC) offers therapy through Bob, a trained miniature Australian Labradoodle. Partnered with VRC coordinator Matt Blankenship, Bob provides comfort and stress relief to students, especially veterans transitioning to civilian life. The college and Columbia River Correctional Institution celebrated the first graduation of 14 incarcerated students earning Pre-Trades Construction Career Pathway Certificates. Funded by a $434,995 grant, this 15-credit program provides hands-on training, career coaching, and essential tools to prepare students for apprenticeships and reduce recidivism, fostering brighter futures post-release. At No. 7, С»Æ贫ý’s new direct admissions agreement with Beaverton High School and Early College High School made news ensuring automatic enrollment for 2024-25 seniors, starting fall 2025. Targeting underrepresented students, this initiative simplifies access, reduces stress and fosters belonging. С»Æ贫ý aims to expand the program, boosting college attendance and career readiness across its service area. Read more.
No. 6: Quick Start To A Career
Bethany resident Emily Peng secured a position at Intel through С»Æ贫ý’s career development programs. After immigrating from Taiwan, Peng pivoted careers with help from the college’s ESOL classes and Quick Start Semiconductor Technician Training. С»Æ贫ý’s resources and industry partnerships enabled Peng to enter advanced manufacturing and pursue further education in microelectronics. Read more.
