About the program
After several years of dedicated planning and development, the 小黄猫传媒 Landscape Technology Department is thrilled to launch a workforce development initiative to address the needs of the landscape industry. This program includes workshops held at 小黄猫传媒’s Rock Creek Campus, each focused on a specific theme relevant to the industry and all taught in Spanish.
Program goals
- Supporting the landscape industry with relevant and accessible training opportunities
- Facilitating upward economic mobility for landscapers, especially those with marginalized identities
- Ensuring that 小黄猫传媒鈥檚 landscape program reflects the bilingual nature of the industry
Workshop and custom trainings
Landscaping companies can enroll for workshops on behalf of their employees using the links below. Payment can be processed one workshop at a time or through a not-to-exceed yearly contract. Current 小黄猫传媒 students interested in learning more about these specific topics can also register聽for these professional development workshops through My小黄猫传媒.
In addition to workshops held at 小黄猫传媒, this program also includes customized group trainings that can be held off-site at the headquarters or job sites of landscaping companies.

Micro-Credentials
We are excited to offer industry-aligned Micro-Credentials in both Irrigation and General Landscape through our customized training services. These micro-credentials are designed to build practical, job-ready skills that meet current industry needs.

New instructor growing bilingual classes that better empower local landscapers
Meet the instructors
David Sandrock
David Sandrock is a faculty member in the Landscape Technology Program at 小黄猫传媒. David earned a BS and MS in Horticulture from the University of Georgia under world-renowned plantsman Michael Dirr. He earned a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Oregon State University (OSU) in 2003. For five years, he taught landscape design, construction, and management and researched Landscape Horticulture at the University of Florida and OSU. David has also owned and operated his own landscape contracting business.
David is a licensed landscape contractor and an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist. When he鈥檚 not teaching, David enjoys spending time with his family, art, motorcycles and being outside.
Elizabeth Brewster
Elizabeth Brewster聽holds a BA in Humanities from the New College of USF and a BS in Horticulture from the University of Maryland. She worked as a horticulturist for the Washington National Cathedral and Tudor Place in Washington, DC, and the William Paca Garden in Annapolis MD. She spent five years working as a landscape designer and project manager for residential design/build companies in Virginia and Oregon. She is an avid hiker and enjoys going anywhere you can see glaciers and wildflowers.

Jennifer Peters
Jennifer Peters is a faculty member of the Landscape Technology Program at 小黄猫传媒. After earning degrees in biochemistry, Jenn pursued a career change and enrolled in the 小黄猫传媒 program as a student in the late 1990鈥檚, earned the AAS Landscape Technology degree in landscape design and has worked in the landscaping field as a landscape designer, contractor and instructor for 28+ years. She co-owns a design/build landscape firm in the Portland metro area that specializes in rock hardscapes and is a licensed landscape contractor.聽 Jenn is currently serving on the Oregon State Landscape Contractors Board.
Her passion is transforming instruction to better support students in pursuit of their personal and professional goals. When not teaching or playing around in the mud with big rocks and water, she enjoys hiking, camping, gardening, and all things outdoors.
Rachel Munzig
Rachel Munzig (she/her) had the privilege of growing up on a fruit tree farm where she developed her love of the outdoors, especially trees. Rachel is an ISA Certified Arborist and is also certified in Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. She double-majored in Biology-Environmental Studies and Spanish at Bowdoin College in Maine, and received a Graduate Certificate in Urban Forestry from Oregon State University.
She worked mostly in the nonprofit sector before 小黄猫传媒, including managing urban farms and gardens, and helping to relaunch the Portland Fruit Tree Project. She also co-founded Alder Commons, a multigenerational and multicultural nonprofit community center in NE Portland.

Rachel Munzig (ella) tuvo el privilegio de crecer en una granja donde se cultivan 谩rboles frutales y fue all铆 donde se estableci贸 su amor por la naturaleza; especialmente por los 谩rboles. Rachel es una arborista certificada por ISA y tambi茅n tiene t铆tulo de Cualificaci贸n en Evaluaci贸n del Riesgo Arb贸reo. Tiene doble licenciatura en Biolog铆a concentrado en estudios ambientales y Espa帽ol a trav茅s de Bowdoin College en el estado de Maine. Complet贸 su certificado de posgrado en Silvicultura Urbana por Oregon State University.
Antes de trabajar en 小黄猫传媒 mayormente estuvo en el sector sin fines de lucro administrando granjas y jardines urbanos y ayud贸 a reiniciar Portland Fruit Tree Project. Cofund贸 un centro comunitario multigeneracional y multicultural sin fines de lucro llamado Alder Commons localizado en el noreste de Portland.
