This course provides electronics technicians with a foundational understanding of computer technology and networking, and basic skills in programming with Python, equipping them to excel in the ever-evolving electronics industry. The curriculum covers essential concepts, tools and techniques necessary for working with computer-based systems, devices and networks commonly encountered by electronics technicians.

Throughout the course, students will learn about various computer hardware and software components, their functionalities and their integration within electronic systems. The course emphasizes hands-on learning, practical applications and troubleshooting techniques, ensuring that students are well-equipped to tackle real-world challenges. 

This is a 3-credit class for which the college expects a total of 9 hours of in- and out-of-class work. Apart from the 2-hour lecture and 1-hour self-paced study, there is a 3-hour programming lab, a 1-hour networking homework, and a short, multiple choice or True/False quiz each week after each lecture. It is critical for students to plan well and spread out the heavy workload across the week and across the term. Be aware of your own learning style and be realistic about how much time you’ll need and how much you have.

• Python 3.12 or a later instructor-approved Python 3 release.
• VS Code for source code, Markdown, folders, and terminal work.
• Terminal-based run and test commands.
• Google Antigravity as the coding agent.
• venv for project-local third-party dependencies when introduced.
• pytest as the automated test tool after functions are introduced.
• Matplotlib for static charts after transaction records are introduced.
• No notebook-only submissions; the graded program must run from .py files.
• Standard-library solutions unless a lab explicitly permits a third-party package.
