Details about this class

Why should students take BA 218 Personal Finance?

Students should take BA 218 Personal Finance because money decisions show up early and have long-term consequences, yet most people are never formally taught how to handle them.

First, it builds everyday life skills. Students learn how to budget, track spending, and avoid running out of money before the next paycheck. These are practical habits that reduce stress and increase independence.

Second, it helps students avoid costly mistakes. Understanding credit cards, loans, and interest rates can prevent debt from spiraling out of control. Many young adults fall into high-interest debt simply because they don’t fully understand how it works.

Third, it encourages smarter long-term planning. Learning about saving and investing early allows students to take advantage of time - one of the most powerful factors in growing wealth. Even small, consistent contributions can make a big difference over time.

It also prepares students for major life decisions, like paying for college, renting an apartment, buying a car, or eventually purchasing a home. Knowing how to evaluate these choices financially leads to better outcomes.

Finally, financial literacy builds confidence and control. Instead of feeling overwhelmed or avoiding money decisions, students gain the ability to make informed choices aligned with their goals.

In short, a personal finance course isn’t just about money - it’s about giving students the tools to navigate adulthood with clarity, responsibility, and greater opportunity. My name is Rocky Pe Benito, and I look forward to being part of your personal finance journey!
