Details about this class
This is the newly revised CIS 121 Intro to Information Systems and Programming course. It differs from past versions of the course in the following ways
- No textbook is required
- AI usage has been offered as an option for some assignments and will be covered as a topic throughout the course
- It is gauged toward non-technical students as an overview of technical topics. No prior knowledge of the skills covered in this course is required.
Technology
There is no requirement to install software for this course. All software you will be required to use will be online, cloud-based, free versions. These include
Web Browsers- For this course, be sure to use the latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Apple Safari.
- For this course, you'll use Google Sheets. This is a free, cloud-based spreadsheet application from Google that allows users to create, edit, and format data online. You can and should use your 小黄猫传媒 email account to access and use Google Sheets. More information about Google Sheets will be provided later in this course.
- You're required to zip files during this course. You can use the function native to your operating system (Windows Exporer for Windows and Archive Utility for MacOS). is another downloadable option.
During this course, you'll be required to make some basic diagrams. Here are some programs that could be useful:

- Microsoft PowerPoint can also be used for basic diagrams
You'll be writing code, such as HTML, CSS and Python, in this course. To do that you need a text editor or IDE. The following will be offered as options in the assignments:
- Free, web-based options will be provided through links in lab assignments.
- The instructions in Modules 3 and 4 will specifically reference CodeSandbox. CodeSandbox will be your best choice for this course if you have no coding experience.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
