Details about this class

In Communication 4, we learn oral communication as a process that involves determination of purpose, selection and adjustment of strategies, comprehension checks, and integration of prior knowledge with new knowledge to address the communicative purpose. We will develop listening comprehension and speaking skills at a low intermediate level. We will address use of important language functions, such as asking for clarification, agreeing, and negotiating meaning. You will present one prepared speech. This class introduces the English stress system, intonation, and certain consonant and vowel sounds. Places communication in the context of adult life roles. Prerequisites: (ESOL placement test AND concurrent placement in ESOL 40/ESOL 40N and ESOL 42/ESOL 42N or higher), OR (successful completion of ESOL 30/ESOL 103A/ESOL 103B).
