Details about this class
Join me this summer to experiment, create, and tell stories in immersive 360 environments.
In this course, you will experiment, create, and tell stories in immersive 360 environments through hands-on projects, workshops, and a collaborative field-based experience.
We will explore and work with new ways of telling stories that move beyond the traditional screen and into immersive, 360-degree environments.
At the heart of this course is storytelling, creating experiences that invite viewers to step inside a moment, see from a new perspective, and form a deeper connection to the story.
You will develop skills in immersive storytelling, learning how stories change when the viewer is placed inside the scene and can look around freely. Instead of working within a fixed frame, you’ll begin to think about storytelling in a 360-degree space—where both you and the viewer shape the experience.
Our time together is built around hands-on learning. Through a series of weekly workshops, you’ll experiment, create, and collaborate, exploring how stories unfold when the audience is no longer watching from a distance, but placed inside the scene rather than watching it from a distance.
Throughout the term, we will create a series of short projects that explore different ways a story can be experienced immersively, through observation, exploration, and participation. We will also work collaboratively on a field-based project with a local organization, capturing a real location and transforming it into an interactive 360 experience.
By the end of the course, you’ll develop a final immersive storytelling project, one that reflects your voice as a storyteller and considers how an audience experiences the story.
