Gia Whitlock earned an MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2025. Dream journaling is a staple in Gia鈥檚 emotional life and her graduate thesis research centered on five of her dream journals from 2024. Gia鈥檚 large-scale mixed media paintings often feature interior spaces loaded with dream content blended with nostalgic objects. Play is essential to Gia鈥檚 work and life in general. This class aims to inspire participants, giving them an opportunity to play with found objects, writing, drawing, printmaking, and painting in a fun, casual atmosphere.

The first session of this class we will be getting to know each other a little bit, playing with inspiration and working mostly in our notebooks. Be prepared to paint and print on paper starting in Session 2.聽
Definitely Bring To Class 1
- Notebook聽 – this will be where you keep your ideas, your writing, and drawings for your painting so make sure it鈥檚 big enough for you to spread your wings 馃檪 at least 5×8
- Graphite pencil with an eraser聽
- Ballpoint pen聽
- Basic set of colored pencils or pens聽
For Classes 2 – 5
- Any recycled paper you wish to gel print – preferably recycled聽
- (ideas: junk mail, catalogs, newspaper, it鈥檚 all going to get covered in paint!)
- 1-2 Canvases – no larger than 鈥18×24鈥澛
- Gel Plate – 8×10 or larger聽
- Brayer – 2 inches or larger
- Palette knife for mixing聽
- Plastic palette or palette pad- can be small聽
Acrylic paints –聽
I recommend a 4 oz tube or larger of the following:聽聽
- Cadmium Yellow Light or similar聽
- Yellow ochre聽
- Cadmium Red Light or similar聽
- Quinacridone magenta聽
- Pthalo Blue (any shade is fine)聽
- Raw umber聽
- Titanium White聽
