I’m a poet and fiction writer. I emphasize creative process as a way of discovery—of ourselves—and of the world around us. Poetry can take us so many places.
I have extensive experience teaching Creative Writing for 20+ years, including poetry and fiction, at colleges in San Francisco, and in in Hawai’i, as well as other venues.
I have an MFA in Writing & Consciousness from New College of California.
I’ve published poetry in many places, including Beatitude 50, Green Spirit, The Best of Eternal Haunted Summer, Maintenant, Mandragora, Enheduanna, and many others. I have a speculative fiction novel coming out later this year, Under the Aurora.

Explore imagery from dreams, meditations, old photos, nature and found texts as starting points for writing your own short poems or tiny fictions. We discuss readings, consider craft and look at each other’s work. All levels welcome.
Poetry craft elements we’ll explore include sound, imagery, forms, figurative language, lineation and theme; for flash fiction we’ll explore the showing of character and use of setting, point of view, and plot. As a bridge from poems to flash, prose poems will be considered. Throughout the class we discuss short readings that evidence skillful use of craft elements. We write in class, work at revision and workshop a culminating project.
