Sylvania Health Technology (West) Renovation Project

The Health Technology West (HT West) project is a major renovation and expansion of the west side of the Sylvania Campus Health Technology Building. The project adds new instructional space, upgrades critical building systems, and creates modern learning environments to support students in healthcare and physical education programs.
New instructional and support spaces
The renovation expands and reconfigures the existing structure, including the addition of a new second level with 9,500 square feet of instructional space. In total, the project includes eight new classrooms, supporting healthcare and physical education programs such as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, and Medical Imaging. Additional improvements include new student study and collaboration spaces, a team room, and expanded support spaces for students, faculty, and staff.

Physical education and locker room improvements
Physical education facilities have been significantly upgraded, including the renovation of approximately 15,000 square feet of support space. Original 1960s locker rooms have been replaced with an all-user design featuring fully private changing, shower, and restroom facilities, supporting privacy, accessibility, and inclusivity. The updated layout provides a range of options to meet different comfort levels and accessibility needs.

Building systems and infrastructure
Building system improvements include upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and roofing systems to improve long-term performance and reliability. The project also adds air conditioning to the gymnasium, brings natural light into the building through new skylights, and incorporates structural enhancements to support these upgrades.
Gymnasium and shared spaces
Additional improvements include a refinished gym floor with new court striping for multiple sports (pickleball, volleyball, and basketball), updated graphics including a new center-court design featuring Poppie the Panther, improved lighting, and enhanced comfort throughout shared spaces.
Sustainability
The renovation is designed to meet LEED Gold standards and includes additional solar panels and energy-efficient systems, reflecting С»Æ贫ý’s commitment to sustainable campus buildings.
