Community-Based Learning Announcements
Neighbor to Neighbor is a community resource and engagement fair for the С»Æ贫ý community. These fairs are a great opportunity for faculty, students and community partners to connect face to face!
Next Fair: Tuesday, October 3rd 3pm-7pm at С»Æ贫ý Cascade in conjunction with the Humboldt Neighborhood Market. Visit the Neighbor to Neighbor page for more dates across the district.
Experience Community-Based Learning at С»Æ贫ý! Courses with community-based learning (CBL) provide students with the opportunity to: explore local, national, and/or global issues; broaden their perspectives and enhance critical thinking skills; and become active citizens through community engagement. There are numerous courses that have CBL projects every term!

- September 24, 2017 (Sunday) – Community Vision is looking for event volunteers for this year’s Harvest Century Ride at the Hillsboro Civic Center! Everyone who volunteers gets a Free ride registration, T-shirt, food and beer ticket from Ecliptic Brewing. this event benefits Community Vision that works to make Oregon a place where all people with disabilities can live, work and thrive in a community of their choice.
- September 30, 2017 (Saturday) – The Serendipity Center needs Nursing Students needed for a 5k! Event starts at 8:00am at Glendover Golf and Tennis Center.
- September 30, 2017 (Saturday) – Â The Nature Conservancy invites volunteers to join them and Portland Parks & Recreation at Mt. Tabor for a restoration work party and conservation celebration!
- September 30, 2017 (Saturday) – С»Æ贫ý Newberg Center Learning Garden is gathering the community together for their Cob Shed Project. You will be mixing clay, sand, straw, and water together with friends and then applying it onto the walls. Refreshments are served and laughter is encouraged.

Programs
С»Æ贫ý Sylvania: Volunteer tutors needed in ESOL classes
Volunteer as a Tutor Every Wednesday from 10am-10:45am OR  7:00 pm to 7:45 pm, you will tutor small groups of ESOL students from levels 1 or 3. This tutoring will happen in the ESOL classroom (here on the Sylvania campus) under the supervision of the ESOL instructor, who will provide the tutoring activities for each session. During the tutoring sessions, you will be doing a range of activities such as: Helping the ESOL students write sentences, read simple texts, and having conversations about life in the U.S.A.
- More details will be given at the orientation session on Wednesday (Oct. 4) from 10am to 10:50pm in LIB 204 OR Wednesday (Oct. 4) from 6pm to 6:50pm LIB 204

Friends of Trees: Friends of Trees Crew Leaders for 17-18 Season
Friends of Trees is now recruiting Crew Leaders for our Fall training dates! Friends of Trees Crew Leaders are critical to our mission as they help teach volunteers how to plant trees while ensuring everyone has a safe, fun, and memorable experience. Crew Leaders attend a required training in the Fall to learn proper planting techniques and best practice on how to guide volunteers during planting events.

Friends of Trees: Help your community select trees for their home–become a Tree Caller!
Join Friends of Trees on Wednesday evenings starting in September from 6-8pm to grow greener Portland and Vancouver neighborhoods! Our Tree Caller Volunteers help our ‘treecipients’ pick out new trees for their homes. You’ll learn about the different types of trees Friends of Trees plants, and how to help neighbors navigate the FOT website and tree ordering process.
Pre-existing tree knowledge not required, we have descriptions of trees and a staff member will always be present to support you. **A short orientation is required** and you’ll be asked to commit to at least three Wednesday evenings at our office at 3117 NE MLK Blvd in NE Portland (the #6 bus stops within a block of our office). Total time commitment is about 4-5 Wednesdays over the course of the September-February calling season.

Join us at the farmers market on Sundays! Whether you want to come every week or just when it fits your schedule, there’s a way you can contribute. Volunteers help with set-up and tear-down, the Double Up Food Bucks program, vendor support, photography, Instagram writing for our website/newsletter, and special events like youth cooking classes and tastings.

Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest: High School Girls Groups Programming Internship Position
The High School Girls Groups Programming Intern will work directly with the Director of Programs and the Program Team to support the development, oversight, implementation, and success of high school programs. The intern will facilitate high school groups, refine and build on curriculum, collect data, and help design a working model for engaging high school girls. We will provide the intern with the training, supplies, curriculum, and support they will need in order to successfully complete assigned tasks. The intern will develop group facilitation techniques, learn about gender specific programming, and have a genuine impact on teenage girls’ lives while helping us meet our programming goals for high school youth.
