The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential, 24/7 support from trained crisis counselors. You can contact 988 if you are experiencing emotional distress, thoughts of suicide or self-harm, a mental health or substance use crisis, or simply need someone to talk with.

You can also contact 988 if you are concerned about a friend, family member, or someone else who may need crisis support. Support is available by phone, text, and online chat in English and Spanish. Additional language support is available by phone.

A trained crisis counselor will listen to what is happening, ask about your immediate safety, and help you determine what support may be helpful. Depending on your situation, they may provide information, help with safety planning, connect you with local resources, or help arrange in-person crisis support.
