Nell Tremagne | “the strength of life is unkown”

This was my submission for week 1, still life: negative space鈥 it depicts two Buddhist icons: a prayer wheel and a necklace of prayer beads鈥 108 skulls carved from bones. The original idea behind the piece was to represent the sound of the prayer wheel visually鈥 as such, the stippling around each icon loosely resembles the peaks in an audio wave. This piece was originally intended to be about sound as negative/positive space, but it came to be more about doubt and faith鈥 specifically doubt in religion, and faith in oneself.

A series of interconnected lines, forming disjointed squares and boxes, which contain the words 鈥渋t dreamed鈥 repeated several times. Under this, the words 鈥渙f shelter鈥︹ are written once.
