- Internationalization Grants Workshop
- Event time: Friday, October 16, 2026, 10-11am
- Event location: Virtual via Zoom
- Learn how to add an internationalization component to your course, and how to apply for internationalization grants from both 小黄猫传媒 and the Northwest International Education Association (NIEA)! The workshop will feature a presentation defining what internationalization means and explain why and how you might add an international component to your course. The presentation will be followed by a brainstorming session where faculty can share ideas, ask questions, and review examples of previously funded projects.

- International Speaker Series
- Event time: Thursday, November 5, 2026, 10-11am
- Event location: Virtual via Zoom
- Presentation title: “The Digital Censorship of Health Information in China”
- Presentation summary: “What happens when information that could save lives also threatens a government鈥檚 political legitimacy? This talk traces how China鈥檚 digital censorship evolved from the 2003 SARS outbreak through vaccine scandals and the COVID-19 pandemic. It also explores how citizens used tools such as blockchain, GitHub, and collaborative translation to preserve information the state sought to suppress. The story reveals an ongoing technological struggle over information鈥攁nd the consequences for public health, political power, and ordinary people.”
- Speaker: Shawn Smallman is a Professor of Politics and Global Affairs at Portland State University, where he teaches about some of the big challenges shaping our interconnected world. His research has taken him from Latin America to China and focuses on topics such as global health, digital censorship, and the politics of information. He is especially interested in how governments and ordinary people respond to crises鈥攆rom pandemics to rapid technological change鈥攁nd what those responses tell us about power and society.

Mini-Grants
Add an Internationalization project to one of your classes and receive a $750 mini-grant! Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are now open and are due on May 1, 2026. Go to the mini-grant page for application information.
