Hello students,
Today was a special day because many students were absent. We didn’t talk about homework. We didn’t take a quiz.
We talked about May Day, which is Labor Day in many countries. We have a different day for Labor Day in the United States in September. I attached a flyer about how some people are observing May Day here in Portland today.
We mostly practiced speaking and listening.
Students wrote questions on the board. We practiced asking and answering these two questions:
1. What do you do?
2. What are you doing right now?
Do you understand the difference between these two questions? Do you know how to answer?
We also talked about the citizenship test. Two of the students in the class are US citizens: Thao and Rahel. I hope youallcan become citizens someday! You will have an American passport. You will be able to vote.
We talked about the citizenship vocabulary on this paper. Click this link:
I found this video that talks about the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is part of the Constitution. It explains all of the freedoms that you have in the United States, such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of press, and more. It’s about 10 minutes long. Click on CC so you can read the words while he is talking. You can also slow down the speed in the settings. Click this link:
Eric Dodson is an ESOL teacher at Сèý. He also teaches citizenship classes. This is his website:https://citizenship.ericdodsonpdx.com/. There is a lot of excellent information here.
