Embodied, Intuitive Abstract Drawing and Painting

Explore the expression of feeling and sensation through abstract drawing and painting using a new experimental theory of composition. Use embodied intuition and gut instinct to experiment with the deeper impact of shape, line, color, and form on the body, mind, and nervous system. This class goes beyond dry theoretical principles to a deeper understanding of how formal elements interact on the page, how they are impacted by the state of the artist, and how they impact the viewer. Break some rules, push the envelope, and express yourself!

Required:
- Pack of multicolored paper or construction paper – include a whole variety of colors and black and white (This is necessary for the first full exercise)聽
- Scissors
- Glue sticks or Glue
- Sketchbook – don鈥檛 be too precious, you will be putting rough works in this, plus notes.聽
- Pencils, erasers, pens and markers of your choice
- Thick black markers
- Acrylic paint of your choosing of a variety of colors. Try to get enough to mix the whole rainbow, plus black and extra white.聽
- Water containers – it helps to have two, one for cleaning your brush, one for wetting paint.聽
- Water spray bottle
- Brushes: Whatever you like. Have a range of round and flat, large and small.聽
- Something cheap to do small, quick paintings on – like acrylic painting paper, watercolor paper, mixed media paper, canvas paper, etc. 8×10 or larger
- Larger variety of canvases, canvas boards, etc. You can decide on these after the first class and as you go.聽
- Palette
- Palette knives of choice
- Towels, paper towels, rags, etc.聽
- Masking tape or artist鈥檚 tape
- Ruler or straight edge
- Color Sketching Materials such as colored pencils, markers, crayons, pastels, oil pastels, etc. Anything you enjoy drawing with as long as there鈥檚 a range of colors to work with.聽

- Acrylic mediums of your choice – IE slow drying medium, glazing medium, gloss or matte medium, textured mediums, heavy medium for sculpting etc.聽
- Apron
